Science or Wishful Thinking

My health care company has suggested that I see an acupuncturist and/or herbalist for asthma (which I don't have). The acupuncturist can check for allergies by using muscle testing. This involved holding an allergen in a glass vial in one hand and trying to resist the acupuncturist with the other hand. How could that be scientifically possible I ask the nice nurse.
